Join representatives from Hanken’s HUMLOG Institute at Heureka’s Family Day to learn about facing disasters, crisis scenarios, and aid procurement on 26 March.

The HUMLOG Institute has partnered with the science centre Heureka to develop an exhibition that lets visitors practice their crisis tolerance   and experience the power of the elements. On 26 March all of this work will be highlighted at the Heureka Family Day, where people of all ages are invited to explore the exhibitions, as well as visit unique booths. Advanced tickets buys will receive a bucket containing valuable information on crisis preparation.

The exhibition partners will be hosting activities like a teddy bear hospital with the Red Cross, emergency shelter demonstrations from ShelterBox, and examples of logistical research and application by the HUMLOG Institute.

“Resilience starts with oneself, one’s family and community. The exhibition provides a wonderful and fun platform to practice resilience skills, including aspects of humanitarian logistics. In today’s environment with people being rather scared of what all can happen, it is even more important to have a non-scary way of practicing such skills. Family Day is the perfect way to do this with role-play, games, and conversation with experts”, says Gyöngyi Kovács, Erkko Professor in Humanitarian Logistics at Hanken.

The HUMLOG researchers will be sharing information about the boundary pushing research in humanitarian logistics, supply chain management, and sustainable supply chain. There will be both booth presentations on the main floor, and two lecture-style presentations in the main auditorium by professor Kovács and Diego Vega, Deputy Director of the HUMLOG Institute.

“We find it important to create spaces where humanitarian logistics research and disaster resilience can be witnessed and experienced by people from all backgrounds. This collaboration with Heureka has been the perfect platform for bringing an immersive learning experience to the people of our community here in Helsinki as well as visitors from abroad”, says Diego Vega.
