Attachments

The attachments below are mandatory for everyone applying to PhD studies. If you do not attach them, your application will not be processed further. Only submit the requested attachments, no other attachments will be considered. Submit the attachments as high-quality scanned PDF-files.

The attachments include

Two reference persons

1. Copy of degree certificate, transcripts of record and Diploma Supplement

Submit the degree certificate, transcripts of record and Diploma Supplement for your qualifying degree.
- A degree certificate is a document issued by an institution to a student who has successfully completed all studies included in the degree and graduated.
Include copies of the official transcripts of records for any university level courses that are not included in your Master's and Bachelor's degrees and which you want to be considered in the evaluation of your application.
- Only courses visible on the transcript of records submitted in the application will be considered when evaluating your educational background.
If you have a degree from Finland, upload your My Studyinfo-link instead of submitting a degree certificate, a transcript of records or Diploma Supplement.
If your educational documents are issued in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, order and submit official translations of the documents to one of said languages.
- An official translation must be one of the following:
  - Issued by the awarding institution,
  - an officially certified copy of a translation issued by the awarding institution,
  - translated by an official translator (original document), or
  - an officially certified copy of a translation made by an official translator.
- Each page of the official translation must bear the translator’s stamp and/or signature. Official translations must be exact translations of the original documents. Translations done by the applicant themselves are not accepted.

Should you graduate after the application deadline, but before the last working day in July, you can still apply for admission by enclosing provisional documentation according to the deadline decided for the current admissions round. See the instructions for enclosing provisional documentation.

2. GPA or GMAT/GRE score report

Check if you belong to group 1 or group 2 on the page about GPA and GMAT/GRE tests.
Upload electronic copies of the official transcript of records proving your GPA or GMAT/GRE test score report.

3. Subject specific attachments

In addition to the above-mentioned mandatory documents for all applicants, also see possible Subject Specific Requirements and include the necessary documentation accordingly.

4. Statement of purpose

Download our outline for the statement of purpose here.
Fill out the form and attach it to your application in Studyinfo.fi.
We do not accept any other motivational letters or statements of purpose.

5. Research proposal

Submit a short research proposal or at least a description of the intended field of research. See the advice for writing your research proposal here.

6. Academic text

Submit a text written by you alone (or where it is clear which part you have written).
The text must be written in Swedish or English (max. 7000 words).
It can be a text that you have already written, for example a paragraph from your master's thesis, a prosemi, a course work or similar.
Submit a text that you are proud of.
The text does not have to be related to the subject you are applying for.

7. Certificate of language proficiency

Submit a certificate or test score report that is official, valid, and fulfil the language requirements (including minimum scores).

8. Copy of passport

Submit a copy of your valid passport.

9. CV in English or Swedish

Submit a CV that is 1–2 pages and written in English or Swedish. The format is otherwise free.
The main purpose of the CV is providing a timeline as support in the academic evaluation but is a mandatory application enclosure for all applicants.
All application documents are public information, so please do not include sensitive information such as information on health conditions, religious and political affiliation, union membership, relationship status, assets etc.

10. Two reference persons

Name in your application two reference persons that we can contact during the interview process.
