Blog: Plant-based at the top of consumers' sustainability rankings

Sustainable innovation can be understood through three general dimensions: ecological, social and economic sustainability. In a blog post (in Swedish), researchers reflect on sustainable innovation from the consumer's point of view and discuss how Finnish consumers perceive companies' approach to sustainability.

The authors, Johanna Gummerus, Kristina Heinonen and Anna Aminoff, draw on the results of the latest Finnish Innovation Survey. Gummerus and Heinonen are professors of marketing and Aminoff is an assistant professor of logistics and corporate social responsibility at Hanken.

They write that when talking about sustainability, the starting point is often innovation - how to develop something new and better, or at least improve what already exists. Innovation is at the heart of companies' long-term competitiveness and is often highlighted as crucial for developed countries like Finland that cannot compete with low prices. Innovation is often seen as technological progress. In the text, the researchers emphasise that innovation, and especially sustainable innovation, can be so much more.
