Student transfer

Here can you read about the possibility of transferring your study right from another higher education institution to Hanken.

Who can apply for transfer?

Transfer student application is possible, if you have a study right in a degree programme at a higher education institution (University) in Finland and you are interested in changing your higher education institution to Hanken.

Bear in mind that you can only transfer your study right from another Finnish higher education institution

If you already have a study place at Hanken but want to study at the other campus (Helsinki or Vaasa) you should not apply for student transfer, but apply externally again in the next application round.

The transfer student application period will be published later. You apply for student transfer in Studyinfo.fi.

Requirements for transfer students

  1. You must have a study right for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies at another Finnish higher education institution (University) than Hanken.
  2. You must fulfil the English language requirement.
  3. By the end of the application period, and no later than your third semester is over, you must have completed at least 40 ECTS, of which:
    • at least 20 ECTS are in economics
    • at least 8 ECTS are in mathematical logical subjects (at Hanken that can be i.e. statistics, finance, economics, or accounting),
    • at least grade 3 (not GPA) on the scale 1–5 in all courses, and
    • all courses must be registered and appear from the official study certificate you submit with your application by the attachment deadline.
  4. These studies must have been completed within the last 3 academic years but however within no more than 3 semesters (1.5 years), including the academic year of applying for the transfer.
  5. All student transfer applicants first get ranked based on the number of completed ECTS in economics and secondly based on the GPA from the economics studies.

More on student transfer

  • You can apply to studies at Hanken both in the joint application and in the transfer student application, but make sure to submit two (2) separate applications in that case.
  • Hanken does not give out study rights for only a Bachelor’s degree, but for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies, and therefore the student transfer applicants’ study right must also be for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies. For this reason, you cannot apply for transfer based on a study right from a University of Applied Sciences.
  • When you accept a new study place from transfer student application, your previous study right ceases. The completion period of the degree is not extended and the time you have used in your previous studies is decreased from the total duration of studies. If you have a study right to both Bachelor’s and Master’s level programmes and you transfer during Bachelor’s level education, your study right to the Master’s degree programme is also transferred.
  • We accept transfer students once a year in May and the new study right begins on 1 August. The recommended window to apply for transfer is in the Spring of the first academic year so that you study during the Fall semester and apply for student transfer during the Spring semester (if you have been absent for one or two semesters you can apply for transfer during your second academic year).
  • If you get accepted to Hanken via student transfer, you get accepted to Bachelor level studies and get a study right that covers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies. We accept no more than 5 student transfer applicants to the Bachelor in Business programme in Helsinki.
