Majors and Minors in Helsinki

At the end of the first academic year of the Bachelor in Business programme, you will choose your major and minor subjects. On this page you can read more about the choice of major and minor.

Choosing your major

At the end of the first academic year of the Bachelor in Business programme, you will choose your major and minor subjects. Hanken offers support for this process through workshops and study counselling. As part of this process, you will finalise your study plan for your Bachelor's degree. The major you select at the end of your first year will apply to both your Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

In Helsinki you may choose one of the following majors:

 

Requirements for choosing Finance as your major in Helsinki
 

In order to choose Finance as your major in Helsinki, you need to fulfil the following requirements:

  • grade 4 or above in the course Principles of Finance (1151)
  • grade 4 or above in the course Statistical Analysis for Economics and Business (1153)
  • grade 3 or above in the course Introduction to Economic Analysis (1146)
  • grade 3 or above in the course Introduction to Accounting (1145)

If the number of students who have chosen Finance as their major and who fulfil the above-mentioned requirements is small, students who do not fulfil the requirements may be granted the right to study Finance as their major, to the extent that the subject has capacity to take on further students.

Any potential extra places are distributed according to the following criteria:

a) the sum of the grades for the four above-mentioned courses

b) if the last available place in accordance with point a) is shared by multiple students, the grade for the course Principles of Finance (1151) determines who gets the place

c) if the last available place in accordance with point b) is shared by multiple students, all students sharing the last place will be allowed to select Finance as their major.

 

Choosing your minor

As part of your Bachelor's degree, you will also complete at least one minor subject, consisting of a minimum of 25 ECTS.
