Information from the Academic Council’s meeting 11.4.2018
In its meeting on 11 April, the Academic Council (AC) approved of 21 master’s theses. The AC wishes to inform the faculty of the fact that there will be around 100 master’s theses to approve of in June, which means that the need for first and second examiners is great.
New professor in Economics
AC approved of professor Ari Hyytinen becoming new Professor in Economics in Helsinki. The matter now proceeds to Rector.
Experts for appointing Professor in Logistics
AC appointed professors Nathalie Fabbe-Costes and Markku Kuula as experts for the chair of logistics and social responsibility at Hanken.
Addition to the curriculum in Marketing 2017-2018
The course Sociala medier – synlighet, analys och effekt (bachelor level) runs during Summer period 2 in Vaasa. The course Consumer Psychology (master's level) runs during the Summer period 2 in Helsinki.
Guidelines for the teaching periods
The Office of Study Affairs, together with the heads of department and department councils, will determine the guidelines for when a course should run during the next academic year.
Harmonizing of requirements to attend a course
It is important that there is a sufficient amount of courses offered on all levels and in both English and Swedish all year round. The Office of Study Affairs will produce a list with the courses that have pre-requisites. The heads of departments have to deliver an explanation why the requirements and restrictions are necessary. AC will decide in its next meeting whether these requirements and restrictions are justified.
Studyplans for 2018-2020
The AC confirmed the new study plans in economics (bachelor level) and the specialisations in English. The study plans for Business & Management, and Financial Analysis and Business Development will be revised with regards to the optional courses and the curriculum.
Minors in language and business communication
The AC confirmed the minor programmes within the Centre for Languages and Business Communication. Students can take regular language courses but also courses in economic sciences that relate to the language and culture. The courses are delivered in cooperation with Aalto, University of Helsinki, University of Vaasa and The Aleksanteri Institute.
New courses and their content
The AC authorized the Office of Study Affairs to revise the following details in WebOodi: examiners for new courses, contact hours, hours of work in relation to ECTS.
The revised curriculum for 2018-2019
The summaries regarding the changes in courses to respond to either 5/10 ECTS have varied greatly. For this reason, a template will be sent out to departments that still need to produce additional information.
Decisions on doctoral theses
The Dean of Research has appointed Professor Harri Ilmari Oinas-Kukkonen, University of Oulu, and professor Sylvester Arnab, Coventry University pre-examiners for Lobna Hassans’ doctoral thesis manuscript.
Professor Johnny Lind, Stockholm School of Economics, and professor Marko Järvenpää, University of Vaasa, have been appointed pre-examiners for Eva Ström’s doctoral thesis manuscript.
General information
The Pedagogical Council will develop a tool for the departments and the language centre in order to follow up on improvements made according to AoL and the accreditation criteria.
The Office of Study Affairs and the PhD programme will work out a schedule and plan to inform about the Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees in 2019.
