Information from the Academic Council meeting on 6 June 2018

Summary of the decisions made during the meeting 6.6.2018.

In its meeting on 6 June, the Academic Council (AC) approved 107 master’s theses. The number of degrees and submitted master’s theses, gives an estimate of 180 master’s degrees by the end June 2018 which in turn gives a prognosis of 290 master’s degrees for the whole year.

Admissions criteria for the Swedish master’s degree programme 2019 –

AC decided to skip the requirement for GMAT/GRE for non-EU/EEC applicants. In stead, all applicants are to have a GPA  of at least 3 on a scale 1-5. If an applicant’s GPA is not high enough, a sufficient score on GMAT will compensate for this.

Guidelines for the bachelor’s thesis

There are some discrepancies regarding assessment and grading of bachelor’s theses. In order to assure that all students have equal opportunities to learn and according to the AoL, all students in the bachelor’s thesis course will have access to methods during 2018-2019 and to both methods and empirical data in 2019-2020, to solve economical issues.
A work group is set up to evaluate the issue further.

Master’s seminar and master’s thesis

In order to improve the student progression on master’s level, the credits given to the thesis (30 ECTS) will be split into 10+10+10 credits in three separate blocks from 2019-2020. New guidelines will also come into force regarding the master’s seminar, which will change from 12 to 5 credits.
Grades will henceforth be given only for the seminar course and for the finalised thesis (not separately for the 10+10+10 blocks). The thesis grades are approved by the AC.

Study module in Corporate Responsibility 25-40 credits

The study plan for the Corporate Responsibility-module is fixed separately every year by the AC. The AC now determined which courses can be included in the 25-40 credits that students can take in CR-courses.

Requirements and restrictions for participating in a course 2018-2019

Maria Holmlund-Rytkönen has reviewed the requirements, restrictions on number of participants and target group restrictions for the courses. They are in general very clear and well-founded  but all information is not yet available in the course descriptions. The departments and the language centre will be contacted during the weeks 22-23 to rectify this matter.

Schedule for the Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees 2019

Everyone, who has received their PhD from Hanken since the last festivities until a couple of months before the actual Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees, is invited.
