Hanken researcher Christian Grönroos rewarded with the prestigious Don Schultz Award

Professor Emeritus Christian Grönroos has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Don Schultz award for Innovation in Teaching, Theory and Practice of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) by the Medill School of Journalism.

The award of 5000 USD is given to professionals who have shown excellence in teaching IMC and have created new frameworks to communicate with customers.

Hanken's long-time professor Christian Grönroos is a pioneering scholar in the field of marketing.He has developed various areas of marketing scholarship and the field known as service logic that is based on understanding and helping customers' needs to cope with their everyday tasks.

“Don Schultz is known as the father of integrated marketing communication (IMC). He visited Hanken several times. It is an exceptional honour to have been recognised with this award. I appreciate it very much. In addition to my main research on services and relationships, I have strived to develop IMC in innovative ways”, says Christian Grönroos.

The multiple award-winning Grönroos' main research focus is on service marketing and relationship marketing. He has also worked with service quality, internal marketing, and has also developed new strategies for marketing and marketing communication. His research is one of the most cited within the field of service marketing and IMC.

“We are delighted to recognize Christian’s groundbreaking contributions to the marketing field,” said Medill School Dean Charles Whitaker. “He is among the very best scholars in marketing in Europe, and thus, a worthy recipient of the Don Schultz Award which honors innovation.”
