“Good reputation, high quality courses, interesting culture”

Utbytesstudenter hösten 2020
Neither the corona pandemic nor distance learning affected the autumn exchange students' experiences of Hanken. According to a recent survey 98% of the respondents would recommend Hanken as host university for exchange studies,

- We are very happy and proud of how well our teachers have succeeded in arranging the remote studies, this was really appreciated by the students, says Johanna Lilius, manager of international relations at Hanken.

The majority of the exchange students thought that there is a wide range of courses offered at Hanken and the courses in sustainability were especially appreciated. The remote teaching was well received as 86% stated that they were satisfied with the teaching methods. Despite the fact that remote teaching dominated during the autumn, 26% still stated that they had access to in-class teaching as well, both in Vaasa and Helsinki.

The student union received credit for being able to organise activities despite the difficult pandemic situation.

The social aspect in addition to the studies became even more important during the autumn term 2020 when the online teaching was predominant and there was thus not as much a natural physical interaction in connection with it.

- The student tutors' efforts contributed to the exchange students still feeling that the autumn term at Hanken was rewarding, says Towa Blomqvist, international coordinator.
The so-called Buddy system, where local students volunteer as a local contact during the semester is also appreciated.

The exchange student survey has been sent out twice per year since 2012. This time, 43 of a total of 60 exchange students (72%) responded to the survey, which is a good response rate.
