Tips on how to prepare for a speed interview

  • Dress professionally, as you would to a traditional interview. First impressions are important, especially when you have such a limited time to make a good impression.
  • Be polite. Shake hands with the interviewer and present yourself. Be sure to thank everyone present for their time and consideration. Ask for the recruiter’s business card to follow up with a “thank you” -email.
  • Bring all your documents with you. Look over your CV and make sure it’s up to date, and bring several copies to the interview. If you have a portfolio or examples of your previous work, take it with you, too!
  • Do your homework. If possible, find out who you will be meeting at the speed interview. Familiarize yourself with the company and their recruitment needs in advance.
  • Prepare your elevator speech. The purpose of an elevator speech is to get your point across in a short time. The speech should take around 30 seconds (100 – 150 words).
