If you have already graduated

If you have completed the Finnish Matriculation Examination in 1990 or later, you don’t need to upload your certificate. We can access your results electronically directly from the national register.

However, if you have completed the Finnish Matriculation Examination before 1990 you should upload a copy of your certificate in the application form on Studyinfo.fi by the attachment deadline.

If you are graduating in the spring of applying

If you are completing the Finnish Matriculation Examination during the spring of applying, you don’t need to upload any certificate. We can access your results electronically directly from the national register.

Note! Your application will be considered in the certificate-based admission if both your grades and your completed Matriculation Examination can be confirmed in the national register by the 14th of May. Hanken is not responsible for possible delays caused by the upper secondary schools.

If you are unsure if your Finnish Matriculation Examination will be completed during the spring of applying, and you have completed another certificate which gives eligibility for university level studies, we recommend that you also submit a copy of the other certificate by the given deadline for attachments.

If you have already graduated

Upload a copy of your diploma certificate (“Diploma” up to 2012, “Diploma of the International Baccalaureate” from 2013) through the application form. If you are admitted your admission will be conditional.

You can request that the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) delivers your grades electronically directly to Hanken School of Economics through the IBIS service. IB diplomas delivered through IBIS are considered officially certified. Order your IB grades to be sent to Hanken here.

Your diploma must be delivered to Hanken by the attachment deadline. The decision of admission is based on the diploma submitted to Hanken during the application period.

If you are graduating in the spring of applying

Submit the Candidate Predicted Grades with your schools’ stamp through the application form. If you are admitted, your admission will be conditional until you have submitted your final diploma. The final diploma must be submitted no later than the deadline. The Reifeprüfung or Deutches Internationales Abitur must be completed in Finland. A Reifeprüfung or Deutches Internationales Abitur that has been completed outside Finland does not give you points in the certificate-based admission. If you have also completed a Finnish Matriculation Examination, or a corresponding degree, please add it to your application form to be able to be considered in the certificate-based admission. To get admission points for your certificates you must submit your certificates according to the instructions on this page.

Submit a copy of the four-page German degree certificate document Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife online though the application form no later than the attachment deadline. Upload the following certificate to your application:

  • A scanned copy of your final degree certificate/leaving certificate including the full name of the school and contact information (address, e-mail, and website).
  • If you are graduating in the spring of applying and still have not received your final diploma certificate, upload a scanned version of your latest grade report/certificate. The certificate should include the official stamp and signature of a representative from the school or educational authority that issued your certificate.
  • Note that if you graduate during the spring of applying, you must submit your final degree certificate by the deadline.

Upload your attachments no later than the attachment deadline.

If you are admitted, your admission is conditional. If you are conditionally accepted, you will receive more information about how to submit attachments in connection with receiving your admission offer.

Please note that if you are accepted and must submit officially certified copies of your documents in connection with accepting the study offer, you must also consider that there are country-specific requirements that apply for degrees completed in certain countries. You may also be able to use electronic verification services to certify the documents.

Contact Hanken’s Admissions Services at admissions@hanken.fi to find out what requirements apply for your degree.

If your educational documents are issued in a language other than English, Finnish or Swedish, you are required to get the documents officially translated into one of these languages.

An official translation must be one of the following:

  • Issued by the awarding institution.
  • An officially certified copy of a translation issued by the awarding institution.
  • Translated by an official translator (original document).
  • An officially certified copy of a translation made by an official translator.

Each page of an official translation must bear the translator’s stamp and/or signature. Official translations must be exact translations of the original documents. Translations done by the applicant themself are not accepted.

If you are a refugee or asylum seeker or have a refugee-like status in Finland and therefore cannot prove your eligibility for higher education by documentation, you can still apply for admission.

You are required to provide us with a reliable explanation of the qualification that gives you eligibility to apply, additional information on the lack of requisite documentation as well as an official decision on your refugee status (decision on being granted asylum or a residence permit based on the need for international protection or a certificate of a pending application for asylum). You must submit a copy of this decision to the Admission Services before the deadline for submitting application attachments and apply like all other applicants and prove that you fulfill the language requirement for admission and attend the required tests.

Hanken can also request the applicant to attend an entrance exam or the like. The university will determine the applicant’s eligibility based on the additional information provided by the applicant.
