Fulbright Distinguished Chairs appointed to Hanken
Nezih Altay is a Professor of Supply Chain Management at the Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University in Chicago, USA. In his research he tries to bring a supply chain perspective to humanitarian problems. Recently he has been working on problems related to information flow between humanitarian organizations and beneficiaries, migrant flows and resilient supply chain network design.
His work with the HUMLOG Institute at Hanken focuses on the challenges of delivering humanitarian aid in conflict zones. This work aims to identify the unique characteristics and requirements of logistics in conflict zones and lead scholars to novel and challenging problems in this domain.
“I have been wanting to collaborate with the HUMLOG Institute for some time now and this Fulbright grant allowed me that opportunity. I look forward to establish long lasting research partnerships with Hanken faculty and doctoral students during my stay in Finland.”

Professor Brian Gibson serves as the Wilson Family Professor of Supply Chain Management and Executive Director of the Center for Supply Chain Innovation at Auburn University in Alabama, USA. From a research perspective, Professor Gibson focuses on supply chain trends. His academic publications focus on the emergence of e-commerce and technology as key drivers of retail success. He also leads the future-oriented research project Logistics 2030: Navigating a Disruptive Decade.
At Hanken, Professor Gibson will analyze the ongoing evolution of Finnish retailers from a traditional brick-and-mortar model to an omnichannel model that can keep pace with the ever-growing requirements of consumers. The research will investigate the role of SCM in e-commerce order fulfillment, with a specific focus on the supply chain enablers and barriers to omnichannel retail success.
“I am very pleased to be at Hanken for a three-month residency, during which I will collaborate with a great group of HUMLOG faculty members and doctoral students. I look forward to the opportunity to be a guest lecturer in the Emerging Issues in Supply Chain courses for bachelor’s and master’s students at Hanken,” states Gibson.

Leigh Anne Liu works as a Professor of International Business at Georgia State University. She studies how culture and cognition influence intercultural interactions, including negotiation, conflict management, and collaborations at individual, organization, and national levels.
Professor Liu’s Fulbright project is to study the dynamic transformation of workplace incivility and conflicts in multicultural contexts. Together with Hanken Professor Denise Salin, they hope to discover dynamic ways to transform and reduce workplace incivility and conflicts at individual and organizational levels in culturally diverse contexts.
“I'm thrilled to be here to work with Professor Salin on our project and with Dr. Jennie Sumelius to guest lecture on topics of cross-cultural negotiation and intercultural competencies. I also look forward to interacting with doctoral students and faculty members in Management and Organization through research seminars and workshops”, says Liu.

The agreement between Hanken and the Fulbright Center provides prominent American scholars the opportunity to spend a period at Hanken. During their visit, the scholar will lecture or conduct research and contribute in disseminating Hanken’s research and knowledge within the business community and society.
Fulbright Center is a service organisation that specialises in academic exchange between Finland and North America. The main goal is to support the internationalisation of Finnish universities and research.
