Juhana Vartiainen new Professor of Practice at Hanken

The Mayor of Helsinki, PhD Juhana Vartiainen has been appointed Professor of Practice at Hanken School of Economics. He will be at the Department of Finance and Economics for the period 1 August 2025 - 31 July 2027.

Juhana Vartiainen has an extensive research experience, in macroeconomics and labour economics in particular. He is an expert in the analysis of Nordic economic policy in the post-war period, as well as wage formation and wage negotiations in the Nordic countries.

Vartiainen has previously served as Director General of the VATT Institute of Economic Research and as Member of Parliament 2015-2021.

“Juhana Vartiainen has an impressive variety of experience from high-level assignments related to economic policy-making, public administration and economic research. With this broad experience, he is very well equipped to convey perspectives on a wide range of economic topics in teaching," says Rune Stenbacka, professor of economics at Hanken.

Vartiainen will contribute to Hanken's teaching in several courses with a special focus on macroeconomic analysis and labour economics. Vartiainen is looking forward to interacting with the School's students.
