Hanken will become full member of ENGAGE.EU as the alliance receives € 14.4 million follow-up grant
In addition to the European Commission grant, each university will contribute to the total budget of 18 million available for next period (2023-2027). ENGAGE.EU facilitates systematic European collaboration among the nine affiliated universities. Many projects have been realised in the past three years in which students, faculty and staff were able to experience the benefits of ENGAGE.EU.
Some examples include offering more than 500 courses for ENGAGE.EU students in a joint course catalogue Opens in new window , more than 50 students who are participating in the Master’s-level honours programme of Digital Transformation, seven expedition weeks in which students have worked on social challenges. In addition, a research community platform Opens in new window has been developed and launched in which approximately 250 scholars have found each other as sources of inspiration and collaboration.
"We are delighted that the EU has decided to fund the ENGAGE.EU alliance for an additional period of four years. The alliance provides a great possibility for Hanken to further strengthen our collaboration with several of Europe’s leading business schools and universities in education, research and societal outreach. ENGAGE.EU will accelerate Hanken’s internationalisation for the benefit of our students, researchers and society at large," says Ingmar Björkman, Rector of Hanken School of Economics.
ENGAGE.EU, which started in 2020 as a European University, aims to bring together the students, faculty, and staff of nine prominent European universities. The objective is to develop new models to stimulate student and staff mobility that contribute to the quality, inclusiveness, and competitiveness of European higher education.
Within the alliance work is done at an interdisciplinary level on sustainable solutions for social issues by offering a programme focusing on education, innovation, and science. As part of this programme, students, faculty, and staff can make both online and off-line use of the programmes and courses offered at the affiliated European universities.
The European University Initiative
The European Universities initiative Opens in new window is an initiative within the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union aimed to establish new standards of collaboration among higher education institutions. It is intended to function as a model of good practice to further increase the quality, international competitiveness, and attractiveness of European higher education.
The European Commission is fully committed to the further implementation of the European Universities initiative. By mid-2024, more than 500 higher education institutions in Europe will form part of such an alliance. This constitutes approximately 10 percent of the total number of institutions.
