Benjamin Maury appointed Wahlroos Professor of Finance

PhD Benjamin Maury has been appointed Wahlroos Professor of Finance. He will enter upon the professorship on 1 August 2014.

Benjamin Maury has held a so-called Tenure Track position in Finance at the Hanken School of Economics and, in accordance with the terms of the position, has made significant advances not only in research and teaching, but also in institutional contributions so as to fulfil the prerequisites necessary to be called to a professorship.

Hanken introduced the Tenure Track system in 2006 as the first university in Finland. The Tenure Track system is based on a career model employed by leading universities in the USA. The system offers young, promising researchers a time-limited qualification position, after which they are to be qualified for a professorship. Maury is the second of the Tenure Track researchers appointed in 2006 who has achieved a professorship.

- I am extremely happy to have reached this point in my academic career and it is an immensely great honour to be appointed to a professorship which is named after Björn Wahlroos. In addition to his contributions to research he has also had an immense influence both on the finance industry and the business world in general, not to mention in the societal debate in Finland, Maury says.

Maury's areas of research and teaching include, among other things, corporate governance, value investing, and fundamental analysis. His on-going research project focuses on value investing and quality investing, in which he investigates how investors can derive benefit from information on shareholders' portfolio and ownership concentration, as well as on other corporate governance variables, in connection with choice of shares. Maury's research interests also extend to the relationship between corporate governance and company performance. These research projects constitute the basis of Maury's development work for an instructional unit in fundamental analysis at Hanken.

The Wahlroos Professorship is named after a donation to Hanken from the Saara och Björn Wahlroos Stiftelse in connection with the fundraising campaign HANKEN 100.
