Noora Geagea's video series Struggle is screened daily at Hanken in Helsinki and Vaasa.

Schedule during 20-27.9.2024: 

Continuous screening daily at 8:00-17:00 at the entrance of Runeberginkatu (Arkadiankatu 22) in Helsinki and inner auditorium and on the third floor in Vaasa.

Daily at 11:00-12:00 and 14:00-15:00 in selected small screens in Arkadiankatu 22, Arkadiankatu 28 and Vaasa.

In Struggle video series, a suit wearing character attempts to walk forward through crashing waves, is falling asleep on a job or carrying a heavy suitcase through a snowy forest. We see the character constantly moving forward while invoking an emotional response to his futile struggles and efforts. 

How do we keep on going forward towards a more sustainable and equal world? How do we cope as individuals in the midst of the multifaceted challenges of today? The video series communicate not just a sense of helplessness, but also convey themes of activism, and hope. 

About the artist:

Noora Geagea is a Helsinki based artist who mainly works with video and photography. She is a storyteller with interest in cultural attitudes and structures and body movement, as an expression of the individual and the collective. Her work often deals with different manifestations of movement and change within our bodies and minds. Her works have been shown in various museums and galleries including Forum Box gallery, Helsinki, the Serlachius Museums Göstä in Mänttä, Finland, Weserburg Museum of Modern Art, Bremen, Miettinen Collection in Berlin and Aesthetica Art  Prize exhibition at the York Museums Trust. Recent publication include Riga Biennale 2023 catalogue. Geagea’s works are included in several different public and private collections such as the Serlachius Museums Collection, Finnish State Art Deposit Collection, Miettinen Collection, Aine Art Museum and KEVA (public sector pensions) Art Collection. Geagea is also an educator, and occasionally teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, Finland.
