Helsinki GSE gets new experts in theoretical microeconomics and industrial organisation

Julia Salmi has been appointed Assistant Professor of Economics at Hanken School of Economics and Alina Ozhegova has been appointed Assistant Professor of Economics at Aalto University.

Julia Salmi is a researcher in theoretical microeconomics. Salmi received her Ph.D. in Economics from Aalto University in 2019 and she is currently an assistant professor of economics at the University of Copenhagen.

"Julia Salmi is a talented economic theorist, and we are delighted to have her as a member of our research community. We know that Salmi's expertise, especially in micro theory, dynamic games, and industrial organization, will be a significant asset to Hanken and the GSE as a whole," says Rune Stenbacka, Professor of Economics at Hanken.

"I am very happy to return to Finland and Helsinki. I am familiar with the research community here and I know that the GSE is a good environment for my research. The GSE micro group is active and has grown significantly over the years. It's great to be part of it again," says Salmi.

Alina Ozhegova is a researcher in empirical industrial organization and is completing her Ph.D. at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in Bergen. Ozhegova's research specializes in grocery and pharmaceutical markets.

“In my research, I have been particularly interested in studying competition in everyday product markets. These areas of economic activity are among the most important for consumers and are particularly relevant in a period of firm consolidation and price increases. I am thrilled to join the vibrant community of researchers at Aalto University and Helsinki GSE, where I can further explore these important economic questions,” says Ozhegova.
