Internships wanted for international students
Within Hanken’s international Bachelor in Business (BiB) programme, students can choose the minor subject “Finnish Business and Society”, which focuses on integration. The minor subject includes a mandatory internship at a company or organisation in Finland. The purpose of the internship is that the students gain the opportunity to adapt to Finnish business culture and perform professional tasks within a Finnish work environment. At the same time, they can use Finnish or Swedish in a professional context and apply theoretical knowledge from their studies to real working life in Finland. The internship supports international students who wish to remain in Finland after graduation.
Through the internship voucher system, Hanken aims to make it easier for potential employers to offer internships to international students who have chosen “Finnish Business and Society” as a minor, thereby ensuring that students secure an internship.
The employer should support the student’s learning process by designating a workplace supervisor and participating in a planning discussion with the student and course examiner prior to the internship. The employer is expected to provide a supportive professional environment and meaningful tasks that allow the student to develop and apply their skills.
The internship grant is a financial compensation paid by the university to the employer. The employer pays the student’s salary during the internship period and invoices Hanken for the placement once it has been completed. The full internship support of 1800 € is granted for a full-time period of 12 weeks (3 months) or part-time period of 24 weeks, with a minimum of 20 h/week.
