Hanken increases its admissions in 2020
The Ministry of Education and Culture has approached the universities to inquire about the possibility to increase the student admissions in 2020 for Bachelor-level studies in Finnish or Swedish, in addition to the previously planned admissions.
Hanken has decided to admit an additional 45 students for Bachelor’s studies in the ongoing admissions process 2020. The decision was made on 29 May 2020. Of these 45 students, 11 will be admitted to Hanken in Vaasa and 34 to Hanken in Helsinki. All 45 students that constitute the additional admissions will be admitted based on the entrance exam. The total number of new students at Hanken at Bachelor level will thus amount to at least 353.
The reason for the need for expanded admissions is the Corona pandemic, which is expected to increase unemployment and prevent young people for example from working or travelling abroad during a possible gap year.
"We want to contribute to the provision of additional study places and thus facilitate the situation for young people in Finland during these exceptional times", says Dean Minna Martikainen. “Social responsibility is one of Hanken's fundamental values, which is why Hanken finds the increased admissions essential. Hanken's share of the increased number of study places proposed for this spring is large as it amounts to a quarter of the additional admissions within the economic sciences that have been announced so far”, Martikainen continues.
During normal years, Hanken admits 180 students to Helsinki and 70 to Vaasa for Bachelor degree studies, with the right to continue for a Master’s degree. In addition, Hanken also admits students through the Open University and other special admissions quotas. Of those admitted to Hanken in Helsinki in 2019, 26 percent had attended a Finnish-language school. The corresponding number for the admissions to Hanken in Vaasa was 8 percent.
The first part of the entrance exam will be held on Tuesday, 2 June 2020 and the second part will be held on 16 June 2020.
