Hanken graduates find employment despite weakened economic situation
First position within 6 months
Despite the positive results of the career follow-up, the long-lasting economic crisis has had its’ impact even on alumni from Hanken. The results indicate that graduates are having a harder time getting a foothold on the labour market and that it now takes a longer to get the first job after graduation, in comparison to graduates from earlier years.
Of those who graduated in 2009, 78 percent had a job already before graduating, in comparison to 94 percent of the graduates 2007. However, those who did not already have a job while graduating found employment within six months and a distinct majority (81%) of the graduates were satisfied with their exam from Hanken with regards to their career.
Low rate of unemployment
The unemployment rate among Hanken alumni is continuing to be low, despite a slight rise from past studies. Only 2 percent of the graduates 2009 were unemployed five years after graduation. The corresponding rate for graduates in 2007 was 0 percent.
The private sector keeps attracting Hanken graduates and is still the most popular sector of employment. Of graduates 2009, 80% work within the private sector, 11% are entrepreneurs and 8% work at universities. It is also noteworthy that the amount of entrepreneurs has doubled in comparison to past career follow-up studies.
The study was conducted by the Career Services at Hanken during the autumn 2014 on alumni five years after graduation. The results are utilized e.g. during career counselling for students and the töissä.fi portal that visually displays employment data.
