Hanken and Arcada create joint study path in logistics

The rector of Hanken School of Economics, Eva Liljeblom, and the Rector of Arcada University of Applied Sciences, Henrik Wolff, have closed an agreement on collaboration in the subject of logistics between the two Schools.

In order to create flexible study paths in the subject, Hanken and Arcada have agreed on a division of responsibility, where Arcada is responsible for teaching bachelor's level courses and Hanken both bachelor's and master's level courses, with focus on the latter.

- We see this as a part of the structural reform currently going on in the entire Finnish university sector. With this agreement we want to show that, through flexible solutions, universities and universities of applied sciences can collaborate, without abandoning the so called dual structure, says Hanken's Rector Eva Liljeblom.

Henrik Wolff, Rector of Arcada, sees many possibilities with the collaboration and points out that the diversity of the university sector will become all the more multi-dimensional in the future, regardless of the dual structure.

This collaboration model offers the students flexible study paths for their graduate studies and clarifies the work distribution between the Schools. At Arcada we can now focus on our own master's education in other areas, Wolff states.

In practice the collaboration will result in Arcada graduates, who have a Bachelor's degree with logistics as their main subject, will be eligible for 2- year master's studies at Hanken, without having to complete so called bridge studies or completing studies. Both Hanken and Arcada engage in building their studies in a way that enables a flexible transition.

- Hanken's bachelor's students will continue to have a sufficient amount of courses in logistics to choose from, in order to be able to choose logistics as major in their master's studies. In addition, Hanken students will be able to take logistics courses at Arcada, free of charge, which further enhances their knowledge in the area, says Hanken's Dean of Education Karen Spens, who is also Subject responsible for logistics and social responsibility.

The collaboration begins in autumn 2014 with a transition period. Tentatively, the maximum amount of Arcada Bachelors that will be admitted to master's studies within logistics will be 15 in the year 2015.
