Hanken alumnus Stefan Larsson: "Curiosity and willingness to learn are the most important skills"
Stefan Larsson started his long and successful career in the fashion industry at H&M. After that, he moved to the US to work as global head of Old Navy and later as CEO of Ralph Lauren. He is now CEO of PVH Corp., owner of brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. Larsson visited Hanken on 29 February 2024 to share his experiences from his career.
- It feels good to be back in these corridors, there is a familiar and warm feeling here. Hanken feels both big and small at the same time, says Larsson with a smile.
During his career in the fashion industry, Larsson has learnt the importance of not relaxing after achieving success, but rather being constantly curious and willing to learn and improve. The point is to not be afraid to say yes, but rather make mistakes and learn along the way.
- You have to be equally eager to share what didn't work as well as what does work. I want to make new mistakes every day!
Stefan Larsson is driven by creating a clear vision that is also simple enough for everyone to understand. He mentions that his former marketing professor and mentor Christian Grönroos has encouraged him to have this mindset and to stick to his vision.
Professor Grönroos' mentoring has meant a lot to Larsson as a business leader. He really appreciates that they have kept in touch over the years and that he has been able to share ideas and visions with professor Grönroos.
Stefan Larsson also revealed that a scholarship in his name will be announced at Hanken. The scholarship grants a master's student the possibility to be mentored by Larsson for the next academic year and also includes job shadowing at PVH's headquarters in New York. More information about the scholarship and the criteria will be published shortly.
Professor Emeritus Christian Grönroos also participated in the discussion together with Communication Officer Jessica Gustafsson as moderator.
