New directors at two of Hanken’s competence centres

Hanken School of Economics competence centres
Erling-Persson Centre for Entrepreneurship (EPCE) and
The Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institute (HUMLOG) have new directors.

EPCE

In October 2014 professor
Joakim Wincent was appointed director of EPCE, as professor Martin Lindell's successor. EPCE conducts research in entrepreneurship and family business.

"It is exciting to be a part of EPCE's future as the importance of entrepreneurships increases all time. We have a great team of researchers at the centre and a strong network of people ready to take on extensive and significant tasks", says Joakim Wincent.

Besides focusing on start-ups, the researchers at EPCE also take an in interest in strong competitive entrepreneurship in existing companies.

"We are also looking at cases of how already existing companies can make use of their established structures and current resources to affect the line of business they act in - for example when going international with new products".

HUMLOG

Ira Haavisto, PhD, took over as director for the HUMLOG Institute, after professor Gyöngyi Kovács, in September 2014. The research focus at the institute is humanitarian logistics.

"We have seen a record high number of crises in the world this year, with ebola in West Africa and the crises in Syria and Ukraine. HUMLOG's role in bringing together academics and humanitarian actors to build up effective support to people in need is increasing all the time", says the new director of the institute Ira Haavisto.

In the future HUMLOG will focus on further strengthening its activities trough enlarged research cooperation, on both national and international levels. One example is the cooperation with the National Emergency Supply Agency in Finland, as well as the continued focus on education in humanitarian logistics for UNICEF's field workers.

"I look forward to an interesting year 2015 for the HUMLOG Institute", says Haavisto.
