The results from the joint entrance exam in economic sciences have now been published for Hanken’s Bachelor degree programme in Helsinki and Vaasa. In June 2021 the entrance examination for future BSc students was arranged under strict security measures.

Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki has had a grand piano in frequent use for about 50 years. The instrument is used during festivities and is otherwise available in the foyer for students to play it. Now our instrument, however, needs to retire.

The year with the pandemic has been exceptional in many ways, but Hanken has risen to the occasion and met the challenges! The graduation level is as good as in previous years and the pace of study has, in fact, increased. In addition, we have recently managed to get extended AMBA accreditation for five years.

When Paul Viio, Professor of Practice at Hanken since 15.3.2021, six year ago started to do online courses in the USA, he felt that the field was light years ahead there compared to Finland. However, during the last year, huge steps towards digitalisation has been taken in Finland – sometimes even bigger than necessary.

Circumstances like the present pandemic highlight the importance of cross-sector cooperation between different players. However, recent research indicates that the closer the cooperation between for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, the greater the risk of conflicts due to a clash of values.

The Finnish Innovation Index (FII), developed jointly with the Norwegian School of Economics, offers Finnish consumers the opportunity, for the first time, to evaluate the innovativeness of companies selling services and products. The results of the survey were published on a webinar broadcasted from Hanken the 17 June. The event will be annual.

Torsten Santavirta, PhD Economics, has been promoted to level two in the career system and appointed as Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Helsinki.

Hanken School of Economics was recognized for its social impact and sustainability achievements when the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) results were launched on 17 June 2021 at the UN PRME Global Forum. Hanken was one of 47 business schools from 21 countries worldwide that took part in the rating this year and achieved Level 3, making it a progressing school within the PIR.

The Association of MBAs (AMBA) announced on 25 May 2021 that the Hanken School of Economics' Executive MBA programme receives extended accreditation for the next five years. Hanken has been AMBA-accredited since 2008.
