This page contains basic information for parents of new degree students.

Finland is a safe country to study, where the Nordic values such as equality define our society. Hanken supports all students throughout their learning journey. Studies are kicked off with Orientation Days and all students receive study counselling and student tutors. Student life is enjoyable in Finland and students benefit from many discounts, for example on public transportation. Students can also enjoy student lunch at campus at an affordable price. In Finland, students can also access student health care for a nominal fee of 36,80 €/academic semester. 

All students attending Hanken school of Economics are covered by insurance during their studies, including during practical training and during an exchange period abroad. The insurance company is If. 

Information for parents of students below 18 years

If your child is arriving to study in Finland under the age of 18, they will need your written consent to: 

  • Be able to apply for a residence permit - your child will need the a separate consent form from the parents or guardians.
  • Apply for student housing - your child will need a consent form from both parents or guardians. The guardians' credit history is generally also checked.

If your child is legally considered a minor in Finland (below 18 years of age), it is advisable to arrive with your child at the beginning of their stay in Finland to enable them to settle and arrange accommodation, agreements with electric companies, bank, mobile phone and data agreements.
